What a weekend. The first annual Community 4 on 4 tournaments was great. Thank you to the folks that put this tournament together, you did a good job.

As for the teams, it was tough and exciting. The Friday night's paring was CP Ranger vs CP Wildcats and Community vs Lawrence. Community came out on top. The Rangers came out of nowhere to play like I've never seen them play before.

Courtney playing 3rd play was on it, catching pop flys, catching throws to 3rd and everything. Courtney, last year a shy little bunter, was smacking the ball everywhere. Peyton was pitching them in like nobody's business. Melissa was doing the splits on first base with her glove acting like a magnet. Dena on short and Brittany on second worked together to cover the rest of the infield. Belinda, Amanda and TT guarded the outfield, and their magic came at the bats. Amazingly they were hitting into the outfield every time. Jessica, one of our new players wasn't going to be out done as she too hit the ball. Amanda M was stopping everything at the plate. Five innings and the Ranger took the game.

Saturday's game was CP Rangers vs Community and Lawrence vs CP Wildcats. Lawrence came out on top, but now without a fight from the wildcats as they tried to rally in the end.

Community has beaten the Ranger every time in the 3 games we've played. However, we've never played all 7 inning. Rain and other things have cut the game short at 5 or 6 innings. Our Rangers looked fired up and we reassured them that we would go all 7 inning and it was our turn to take them out. Again at the start they dug in and tore up the field, crushing Community by 10 in the 5th inning.

Afterwards we played a regular season game against Carnine. Carnine is by far the toughest team in the district. Whether you like them or not, they can play ball. I think this game was more fun for the parents than the players (and even the coach) as we messed with their pitchers style. The rule book says the play may not pass the hip 3 time. She would start behind her (1), put the ball in the mitt and go back (2), and finally windmill (3). After removing that pitcher we were able to hit the ball. Finally, towards the end of the game a call was made on 3-strike drop ball and our runner left 1st base on the pitch and our batter stole 1st. Personally, I would have argued this too, maybe not to the point she did. Blue threw her from the game after repeated telling her to go back to the dug out. The Rangers held there ground and would not stand to be put out in the 5th inning. Even though it was a tuff loss, we made them work hard for the win.

Sunday morning was time for the winner's game. CP Ranger vs Lawrence. Everyone came ready to play ball. Playing on the backfield, and in the visitors dugout we looked good and seemed fired up. We took the field and made 3 quit outs, our bats were hitting and we were off to a good start. About the 4 inning, and I hate the 4th inning, we quit playing. Actually, we where wore out. It was hot and I think we didn't drink enough to keep up with the heat. However, the girls battled on to finish the game.

With that loss, we took a 30-minute break, before the next game. Drowning the girls and restocking on drinks they appear ready to go. Chris and I made a few tactical changes. Maybe not the best thing to do, but we needed to rest up a few players so we could win. Filling Peyton up with water, we left her on the bench. Amanda with a soar hand played out field, while Belinda, who never played catcher - I know everyone's going why?!? - it seemed like the best thing at the time. Belinda played hard and did the best she could. Good job B. After struggling through that first inning, the clouds rolled in and the heat left the field.

Courtney, still playing an amazing job at 3rd took up the catcher’s gear and played like she was an expert, giving Amanda M enough time to recover and finish the game for us. Melissa now fatigue from pitching took over first base and we brought Peyton back to the field.

Jessica came in. Jessica, probably disappointed she didn't get to play much, sat the rest of the game. Sorry, and here's the reason why, in case your wandering. We switched Jessica with Peyton, since we only played 9 players according to Tournament rules. So the only way we could put Jessica back out was to remove our only available pitcher.

We started a come back and made it to the 5th inning to play remaining game. We were holding them and hitting the ball. We just couldn't seem to hit enough though. Lawrence took home the trophy.

"What If’s?" Does that question run threw your head? What if the coach hadn't sent me? What if he had? What if I had sent the player? What if I hadn’t sent the player? "What if’s" can win games for you, unfortunately you can't change the past. Remember it is a team effort. Not just the players, they have the hardest part in the game, it's coaches, parents, and fans. Take what you've learned and apply it to the next opportunity you have.

You all played well and we had great fun doing it.

Rain. I hate rain. Another game cancelled by rain. You know what it's doing here at work this morning? Raining. It looks like just Lafayette, so maybe the fields will be dry at the park for tonight and this weekend. I hate rain.

TOURNAMENT WEEKEND

Community Little League is hosting a 4 team double elimination tournament this weekend.

CP Rangers, CP Wildcats, Lawrence, and Community will play at 5:30 on Friday. Winners will play at 10:00. Loser brackets will play at 12:00 and 2:00 on Saturday. Championship game will be played at 1:00 on Sunday with possible second elimination at 3:00.

Players and coaches need to be at Community at 5:30 and ready to play at 6:00. We will have two fields Friday night and all four teams will play.
Where was everyone last night? I saw 12 Ranger girls on the bench, yet none of them were there. It was a frustrating evening, playing against and excellent hitting Southport Pirate's team. There coach did an excellent job of signing the play and they had great hitting control. If you could combine C9's fielding and SP's hitting you would have an unstoppable team. Good thing you can't!

It's getting hard to keep the girls in the game. It seems like they are playing out side the fence, listening to fans suggestions instead of using their heads and listening to the coach’s. I know this team has talent and can play, I've seen them play. Hopefully, we'll be able to pull it together because we've got a long weekend.

Welcome to the CP's longest game. I think in the 6+ years I've been watching my kids play ball, I have never seen a game go 9 innings. I’ve had some long games with short innings, but never anything like last night.

Lawrence came to our park to play against the Rangers and it started off well with a quick first inning and then we all settled in for a long game.

Amanda M started us out behind the plate, catching for Melissa. Amanda seemed a little off tonight, I'm not sure what's up with that, and we’ll have to talk. Dena switched up and Peyton took to pitching about half way through the game. Lawrence seemed to be able to hit well off both girls, I was told later I should have pitched Dena with the slow pitch. Oh well.

The Rangers started off a little sluggish and by the 3rd inning the Lawrence team was up. Realizing we were here to play ball our Rangers started kicking in.

TT in right field caught a beautiful fly ball and then Brittany followed her up was another at second. Brittany then smacked the ball when she was up to bat.

Courtney was playing tuff at 3rd base and caught everything our catchers were throwing to her. Miss "Bubby-a-lewy" has great improvements in her batting this year and it showed in this game.

Mariah on first made several “no problem” plays at first. Amanda C and sister Belinda protected the outfield with style. Amanda C does and excellent job of keep the team chattering. Her enthusiasm goes a lot further than she thinks. Jessica start out on short and backed up 2nd from the outfield as well.

Everyone hit the ball, except Ashley. I think she’s little afraid of the ball and unsure of whether it’s a ball or strike. I’ve had other players like this and it just takes time and patience, and practice.

Tying up the game in about the 6th or 7th, there team would score, and then we would power right backing tying it up. They would get 3 up and 3 down, and we would follow right long. Finally, in the 9th inning they managed to score two runs on us. Melissa smacked the ball and made it on base. TT followed up by moving Melissa around to 3rd. On the next batter, Melissa made it in. We needed just one more run. Unfortunately the pitcher and darkness got the best of us.

Later after the game I found out that the final pitcher on the Lawrence team had pitched 6 innings the night before, technically making her an illegal pitcher. Pitchers pitching 5 or more innings must have a day's rest. (The only exception is a double header on the same day.) Every game we learn something, from now on we'll be checking the other coach’s pitcher logs.

Girls you played long and hard. You never gave up. Good job!

The sun shined all morning and into the afternoon. It was a beautiful Tuesday afternoon and then the rain rolled in. A fourth game messed up by rain, no way, were fighting this one all the way out.

At 3pm the storms rolled threw the area making us wander if the fields would be playable, lucky for us a scheduling mess paid off for us. The game between the CP Rangers and the CP Wildcats was schedule at CP, and then I got a message the field was taken, so we moved it to Lowell. Tuesday afternoon I got the message the field was open and were playing at CP. So I call everybody, and we all show up at CP. John was dragging the field, trying his best to dry it out and it wasn't happening. Let's go back to Lowell! I called them and they said their field was playable, so we packed up and headed over there. Thanks to Lowell, Dan Norris and everyone else that drug the field, we start to play about 6:30.

I told the Rangers that the Wildcats had no plans of going easy this time and we would have to play hard to win. We ousted them quickly in the first inning and picked up 3 runs to start us out. Melissa was pitching hard and fast, impressing several on lookers from the Jr/Sr. boy’s team. Amanda, still recovering from her hand injury, took up the catcher's spot.

Around the 4th inning Sadie on the WC team smacked a beautiful ball to center field. The Ranger hustle the ball in holding her on 3rd.

The Wildcats fans were getting loud and proud of their team. When I look at our side, I could hear the crickets. I guess a coach’s job is never done. Fire up the team and fire up the fans. After getting our fans behind us we pushed full steam into the game.

It all came down to the seventh and final inning. The Rangers up slightly needed to hold the Wildcats. With Peyton now at the mound, it was down to the wire. After struggling earlier in the season, Peyton found her game, throwing nice pitches into the plate. Sadie, again, stepping up the game was on third base. With a quick steal he was home, putting the WC ahead by two. Finally, we got our third out.

We needed runs, two to win. Peyton got on base, and with sacrifice from Jessica, stole second. Dena was now up to bat. Dena, has struggled with hitting the ball to someone other than the pitcher this year, smacked the ball to short who scooped up the ball and looked at Peyton taking two steps off the base. Short hesitated - hold the running or throw to first? Unfortunately, that two-second delay cost them the game. I always try to teach my girls think of what you’re going to do before the ball gets to you. Short, hesitates and Peyton plays the fake at second. Short then throws the ball to first, Peyton fly pass her and holds on third. The throw, now late to first, saves Dena safe on first.

Amanda C is now up to bat. Stalling and making a good attempt at bat, gives Peyton the chance we need to score and she pulls it off and move Dena to third.

Amanda M, top of the line up, takes the plate. Two outs, running on third, bottom of the 7th inning, score tied. Amanda hits the ball and Dena is off, like lighting, crossing home plate for the win.

Excellent game for both teams! You kept all of your fans on the “edge of ours seats”.

YEAH! Carnine called today and we've add four games to the schedule. Two for the Rangers and two for the Wildcats. The games schedule for Saturday 19th may be moved to Lowell instead of Christian Park since I didn't have a change to check with the park and we've struggled to contact Carnine. I will let everyone know tomorrow.

Updated Schedule 061504
Tonight's game has been move to Lowell Little League(Emerson and Terrace) at 6:00. Everyone do the "No Rain" chant, I think we'd all like to play some ball tonight.

How would you choose to spend your 15th wedding aniversity with your loved one? At the ball park of course! I think I got one over on her, by supprising her with a "game ball" with a beutiful diamond ring. Ah, the look on her face, it was great.

You have to watch out for that Community team, not only are they a good challenge, but they keep bring lighting with them. Yes, lighting. Just like our last game, they get a few points on us and it begins to lighting and the game gets called early after the 5th inning. I see how you are...lol.

We started with a quick 3 outs in the first inning. We moved on to the second inning and began to pick up speed, playing with style. I rotated the player from the bench to the field to help keep them fresh and motivated. It seemed to do well until the 4th inning. Bad play after bad play, it was very fustrating. Be managed to get our heads back into the game, but it was to late. The weather turned bad and the ump called the game.

The new line up that seemed very effective in previous games has begun to fail, so look for some change up this weekend.

Smile pretty, because we have pictures at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and on to Lawrence (54th and Franklin Rd.) for a double header at 10:00 and 12:00.

What a disappointing game we had on Tuesday. It was a late night game and it was still hot and muggy. The girls seemed fired up till we hit the dugout and began to play.

Their pitcher did not seem all that fast, but our bats just didn't seem to work. Our pitching was off, our catcher injured, our coach didn't move players when he should have, players bored and it goes on. It's just the luck of the game.

I wouldn't say it was for the lack of trying on our part. No one intentionally did anything wrong, and spirits were good. We just couldn't catch the swing of the game. This IC team was more intimidating than the other two and I think that has a lot to do with it.

Let's put that one behind us and move on! Practice on Wednesday at 6:00 and them on Thursday we have a re-match with Community. Time to take back that rain game, and show them what we've got!
I've updated the schedules for both teams. I think this will hopefully be the last change. Any questions please let me know.

Schedule as of 060904

I'm so bummed with Carnine. They've always had a competitive team, yet this year they don't seem to want to play us. I've talked to and left messages with their president. It just doesn't seem like were going to make that magical connection. So, schedule changes will be posted later. I've added a couple more in park games.

Rangers, team pictures are Saturday at 8:00 a.m. at Christian Park. Yes, there really is a 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. Sorry, it's the only time they had before our 10:00 & 12:00 game at Lawrence. Smile and say SOFTBALL!
Friday night was another fabulous evening for softball. Our Rangers took on the second Indiana Central team. With Big Dan umpping the field, our girls took first bat.

The game like others clicked back and forth. Two for us, two for them. Four for us, Four for them.

Our batting line up started out with Mariah, Ashley, Dena and then Melissa. These four experienced players started us off well. Next, we had Brittany, Belinda, Amanda M. and Amanda C. They may not hit it out of the park, but they can consistently move the bases and help our runners in. Finally, Courtney whom I think has had a exciting year so far, was up and so was TT, who can smack the ball down 3rd.

Our line up is great as long as they run when they hit the ball. About the middle of the game, they forgot to run. This cost us an important inning and kept us from scoring.

However, after a refresher from both coaches, we edged ahead to 9 in the 7th inning.

Going into that inning the score was 9 to 5. We just had to hold them. After a few errors, they managed to score two runs. Just like a classic movie setup, it was bottom of the seventh, runners on the bases, three balls, and two strikes. A beautiful pitch from Melissa when sailing across the plate and with a loud smack the batter hit a line drive towards the short stop. Quickly, getting in from of the ball and with a loud POP it was solidly planted in Mariah's glove. Third out, game over, Rangers win!

Way to hold them ladies.

The schedules have changed again and they will probably change one more time. The new schedule has a list for everyone, LR, WC, Umpires, Lowell Field, and Concession Stand. Hopefully by Monday everything will be set in stone or at least wet cement.

Schedule 060404
It was a picture perfect softball evening. The temp was comfortable just around 70 and the sun was setting in the east. The brand new field provided by the RoundTrippers was graded with smooth red dirt and the fresh white chalk lined the field.

Christian Park's finest girl's teams were both were ready to play. The Wildcats, coached by Karla & company, and the Rangers, coached by David and Chris. As both teams warmed up on the field, old friends were greeted, challenges were exchanged and the game was on.

The Wildcats took the field and the Rangers were up to bat. The first couple of innings seesawed back and forth between the teams as they began to get into the grove.

I think the first thing that really put the Ranges in to over drive, was Mariah, or at least I think it was Mariah. She was moving so fast around the bases I could hardly tell. She hit a nice ball and zoomed to first, just tagging the plate before first caught the ball. Swiftly she touched first and as the first base held the ball and wandered in front of first base, Mariah dashed off towards second. By the time first base realized it, and so did I, she was on second. The startled throw to second flew into the outfield and she was off again, rounding third and into home. First homer of the year. Good job.

Peyton held the plate while Amanda guarded home. Peyton pitched consistently and had a little trouble in about the 5th inning allowing 4 walks. However, the rest of the team helped her out by being ready to make the plays. She recovered and finished out the game well.

Melissa, playing first, must have had a ball magnet in her glove. The line drives down first seemed to just stick in her glove making so many plays at first. One of the best plays was a sneaky throw from the pitcher to first, to get an over confident stealer out, wrapping up the inning.

The outfield, Jessica, TT, Belinda and Amanda, whom I thought would have a busy evening, because I know the Wildcats have several heavy hitter, were sadly disappointed. Not to worry, I'm sure IC will keep you busy Friday night.

Courtney was pulled in to play third base and was backed up by Dena playing short. Not quite sure what to do, both David and Chris gave her a few pointers and she pulled through with style.

Ashley and Brittany covered second. They had a couple of close plays and several good hits.

Our goal was to gain 3 seconds on everything and you did it. Good job!

I finally have address' and maps for the park we will be playing. Hopefully this will be better than me giving directions...lol.

DON'T WATCH THE BALL!! RUN, RUN, RUN. Ok, that said, the Rangers first real game against Community was pretty good. The first inning was rocky, we had a chance to steal several base and we didn't then we let them score 5 runs. What a bummer. However, we held them and started playing ball. The score was 5-3 their lead and then the rain and lighting began. Blue called the game. We would have been up to bat in the 7th inning. I know we could have taken the win from them.

So, practice on Wednesday and then we have a full week of games. The first game for the Wildcats vs. Rangers will be Thursday at Christian Park on the Boy's Major Field. Friday the Rangers play at IC. Saturday the Wildcats play at Lawrence and then we both play against each other that night about 4:30 at Lowell.

I have updated both schedules, please check them and ditch the old schedule.

I talked to Lowell Little League last night and found out they do not have enough girls to form a team. I have also not heard back from Carnine. I talked to Community's coach after the game and he too is not getting a call back from Carnine. If your with Carnine what's up?

See you tonight Rangers! Bring your bats, will be hitting the ball - and not watching it!
