My grandfather pasted away last week, so I'll leave one of his favorite sayings this week...
"You don't have to go to work, you get too."
He grew up during the great depression. As a boy, he would drive a truck along a 300 mile route, just for a coke and sandwich. His work ethic was unmatched, accruing 2000 hours of untaken sick leave during his career at Fort Harrison. He will be greatly missed.
Elephants don't bite, its the little things that get you.
Ever been bitten by an elephant? How about a nat, mosquito, or a no-see'm?
It's not the big things that can cause problems in a game. It's usually the little things - not being down and ready, distracted by someone else, and not watching for the calls - that can cause big problems and losses during a game.
So, remember to pay attention to the little things, in order to be a better player.
Christian Park will be having sign ups for all ages this Saturday (3/13/04) at the concession stand, down the hill by the baseball diamonds, from 10a.m.-2p.m. All ages are welcome to sign up!
In other news, several members of the Christian Park board met with Lowell's board last night to discuss the future of both parks Jr & Sr. Boys & Jr. & Sr. Girls teams. Last season our team had the privilege of playing with Lowell and I enjoy their enthusiasm for softball.
Over the years we have always used Howe's baseball fields for Jr. & Sr. Now, Howe has increased it's grade levels and we will not be able to use their field since they will be active in H.S. playing. At the same time, the number of Jr. & Sr. boys & girls in the Lowell area has decreased. So, it comes down to this, Christian Park has the players and Lowell has the fields.
Although nothing is official yet, I think both parks are going to try and work together in order to provide a quality season for all players.
What does this mean to you? You will still be playing as Christian Park and they will still be playing as Lowell. Jr. & Sr. will practice and play on Lowell's fields, instead of Howe.
The main benefit, atleast for the girls, will be when tournament time rolls around, we may consider making an All-star team from both leagues. I know several of you were really disappointed that we didn't get to go to tournament, and so was I. Hopefully, with this plan, we will go this year!
I was able to finally catch up with Christian Park's board and find out what's going on. There will be several changes in order to provide a fun and successful season.
Let's start with Dan Norris. Dan has coach many of you over the years. This year, Dan will be handing his team over to his wife, Sue. Dan will be attending umpire training this month, so he will be a certified umpire. Dan plans on umpiring as many of the girl’s softball games as he can. This will provide each league with consistent "game calls".
We have 9 girls signed up for our Jr. & Sr. team so far. Four players I haven't met and five returning players. With players from last year and new players that are moving up, I think we may have a group of 15 to maybe even 20.
What is a pincher runner?
7.14 - Once each inning a team may utilize a player who is not in the batting order as a special pinch-runner for any offensive player. The player for whom the pinch-runner runs is not subject to removal from the lineup. If the pinch runner remains in the game as a substitute defensive or offensive player, the player may not be used again as a pinch runner while in the batting order. However, if removed for another substitute that player or anyone player not in the line up, is again eligible to be used as a pinch runner.
